The brief
Boston After-School Collaborative had been running art, music, and STEM enrichment for K-8 students across 6 partner schools. Parents had asked for language classes for three years; the operations cost of running language was the blocker.
What Koydo unlocked
Cohort-based scheduling with class codes meant a single tutor could run a 12-student cohort on a recurring weekly slot — without the operations team having to manage individual bookings. The low 3% fee meant the program could pay tutors a real hourly rate.
The first semester
9 days from sign-up to first lesson. 80 students across 8 cohorts (4 French, 4 Mandarin). Two of the tutors were existing Boston-area language teachers who'd been on Outschool for years; both reported earning ~50% more per hour on Koydo.
What broke (honestly)
Parent enrollment via class codes was confusing for non-tech-fluent parents in the first month. The Koydo team shipped a simplified parent enrollment flow (shorter copy, larger CTAs) by week 3. Worth flagging — every new platform has rough edges in the first 30 days.
