The written policy · permanent page
Not 0% for now, not 0% on your first three lessons, not 0% until you get busy. Zero, on every lesson, because Koydo is not in the lesson-payment path at all. This page exists so you don't have to take a salesperson's word for it — read it, screenshot it, hold us to it.
Six commitments. No footnotes that undo them.
You set the price. We take none of it. No commission, no tiers to climb, no rate that goes up because you're new.
A family finding you through Koydo costs you nothing. There is no lead fee, no per-introduction charge, and no cut on the first lesson.
There is nowhere on Koydo for a family to pay for a lesson. You and the family settle directly, on your terms.
We never take custody of your lesson money, so there is no balance to be frozen, no credit to expire, and nothing of yours inside an account we control.
Your rate, your cancellation policy, your curriculum, your name. You accept or decline every inquiry, and you stay free to work anywhere else.
There is no promoted listing to buy. Subscribing does not raise your position, and neither does paying for your screening.
If we're not taking a cut, something else has to pay for this.
So here it is, before you ask. Two revenue lines, both of them things a person chooses to buy, neither of them a slice of your teaching.
Revenue line one
Families subscribe for the learning side: graded lessons in 50+ languages, the reader, the pronunciation lab, karaoke, progress tracking and the AI tutor. Browsing tutors and being matched is free — an active family subscription is what unlocks messaging a tutor. That subscription is Koydo's main revenue, and none of it is a cut of your lesson.
Revenue line two
A flat monthly workspace subscription for the teaching side: scheduling, your students, lesson tools, the whole 50+ language engine to teach from. It buys tools. It does not buy ranking, it is not required to list, and it does not change what you keep from a lesson — that is already 100%.
There is no Koydo checkout for lessons. Not a hidden one, not a coming-soon one — the routes that would take a lesson payment are switched off in our source code, not merely hidden from the screen. That is why we can say 0% without an asterisk: we could not take a percentage of your lesson money even if we wanted to, because it never passes through us.
Your background screening. Named up front.
Every publicly listed Koydo tutor clears identity and background screening, and it renews. You buy it yourself through web checkout at the screening provider's price plus 20%. We are telling you the markup instead of folding it into something vaguer, because a platform that hides one number will hide others. Paying for a screen never guarantees you clear it, and it never changes where you appear in the directory.
If a screening jurisdiction charges a government or court access fee, we show it to you before you are charged and pass it through at cost. It is never added quietly afterwards.
It means Koydo takes nothing off the rate you set. There is no commission, no per-introduction fee, no lead fee, and no percentage on a package. You agree terms with the family and they pay you directly, outside Koydo — which is also why there is no Koydo checkout for lessons and no Koydo balance holding your money.
Two ways, and only these two. Families buy a Koydo subscription for the learning side — practice, progress, the reader, the pronunciation lab, the AI tutor — and that subscription is what unlocks messaging a tutor. Separately, a tutor can choose the Pro Educator workspace for $19 a month for scheduling and teaching tools. Browsing, appearing in the directory, and being matched with a family cost you nothing either way.
No. Placement is not for sale on Koydo. Subscribing to Pro Educator does not move you up, and paying for your screening does not move you up either. There is no promoted-listing product to buy, so nobody can outbid you for the top of the page.
One thing: your background screening. Every publicly listed tutor has to clear identity and background screening, and you buy it yourself through web checkout at the screening provider's price plus 20%. We say the markup out loud because you deserve to know what you're paying for. Paying for a screen never guarantees clearance and never affects your position in the directory.
No, and we'd rather you didn't on our account. Listing on Koydo is free, so the sensible thing is to keep whatever is already working for you and let Koydo be the one that doesn't take a cut. We will never ask you to move students you met somewhere else — that's between you and the terms you agreed to there.
We're not going to promise you eternity, because no honest company can. What we will do is this: the policy lives on this permanent page with a date on it, the behaviour behind it is checked automatically every time we build the site, and if it ever changes the change appears here first — not in an email after the fact. Screenshot this page. That's what it's for.
They aren't ours to charge or to waive, because we're not in the payment path. Whatever you use to collect from your students — your own card processor, a bank transfer, cash — the fees and the terms are between you and them. Koydo does not collect, hold, route, refund, or pay out lesson money.
Put in your own rate and your own lesson count. If the number isn't worth your afternoon, close the tab — we'd rather that than a tutor who felt talked into it.
