Marketplace
A free worldwide directory of Koydo Lingua tutors. Tutors list for free, students search for free, and Koydo takes 0% commission on matched lessons. We monetize solely via the optional Pro Educator subscription ($19/mo flat) for the teaching toolkit — the directory itself is permanently free. The opposite of italki (15-21% commission), Preply (18-33%), Cambly (~59%), and Wyzant (25%).
Live directory · Claim your city
The directory is live and crawlable today. The first verified tutor for each city × language pairing earns a Founding Tutor badge and a free first year of Pro Educator. Tutors and students contact each other directly — Koydo never inserts a commission. In-platform booking, calendar sync, and Koydo-managed billing are future features that ship as the tutor pipeline matures.

Four steps. Zero commission. Zero hidden fees.
Sign up with email, add your photo, list the languages you teach + your CEFR ceiling per language, set your hourly rate, mark your service area (zip-code radius for in-home or "remote-only" for online), describe yourself. Free. No card needed. The profile is public and search-indexed — Google will find you.
Students enter their city, choose a target language, set a max distance + rate range, and see a map view of nearby tutors. Browser geolocation can auto-fill the location. No account needed to browse. Free.
Through Koydo's in-platform messaging (no email exchange required for first contact). Tutor responds, they arrange a trial lesson on their own terms. Koydo doesn't impose first-lesson rules, fee structures, or scheduling templates — it's the tutor's business.
The student and tutor arrange payment + scheduling themselves (PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, cash, the tutor's own Stripe — whatever they prefer). Koydo takes 0% of lesson revenue, forever, on every match. Tutors who want the teaching toolkit (gradebook, parent share-link, on-device AI tutor, 50-language curriculum) subscribe to Pro Educator at $19/mo flat — independent of the directory. Optional Koydo Payments billing is available later (5.9% + 30¢) for tutors who want managed billing, but it's never required.
Be the first verified tutor in your city — for any of 50 languages.
Every city × language pairing is a separate searchable slot. Claim yours now and you earn a Founding Tutor badge that shows on every search forever — plus a free first year of Pro Educator ($228 value). The first 100 verified tutors in each language ship with the badge.

Q3 2026
Calendar sync + in-platform booking. Tutors connect Google / Apple / Outlook calendar. Students book trial lessons directly from the profile. No commission added — booking is part of the Pro Educator toolkit.
Q4 2026
Optional Koydo Payments for matched lessons. Tutors who want Koydo to handle billing on marketplace lessons (statements, 1099, refund mechanics, dispute coordination, rolling chargeback reserve) opt in for 5.9% + 30¢ all-in. Still cheaper than every marketplace on the planet.
2027
Verified-tutor video intros + lesson-package marketplace. Tutors record a 60-second intro video. Students can buy 10-lesson bundles upfront with money-back guarantee. Built on top of the existing directory — no separate platform to learn.
The marketplace isn't a free-for-all.
The Verified Tutor badge confirms only that a third-party background screening provider completed a check on its standard date. It is NOT a Koydo guarantee of safety, fitness, competence, or non-recurrence of past behavior. Parents and students are responsible for their own due diligence.
The business model lets the matching work.
Every per-lesson marketplace eventually warps the matching surface to maximize its take rate. The first lesson gets aggressively boosted because the platform wants to bank that 25% commission. Repeat tutors get hidden behind newer tutors because the platform wants new bookings, not loyal ones. Off-platform contact gets blocked because every off-platform conversation is a future commission lost. The student experience degrades because the ranking algorithm is not optimizing for fit; it is optimizing for clearance velocity. Tutors learn to game the algorithm rather than improve the lesson. Parents do not see their child's actual best-fit tutor; they see whoever paid the platform's promotion fee that day.
Koydo does not earn money on matched lessons, ever. The directory's only goal can therefore be matching quality: the right tutor for the student's age, language, target CEFR level, geography, schedule, and budget. Search ranking weights honest signal — completed lesson count for that language pair, average review score, verification level, response time on first contact, percentage of trial lessons that converted to a second booking. There is no "featured tutor" auction. There is no opaque relevance score. A tutor in your zip code teaching the language you searched for ranks above a tutor on another continent who paid for placement, because we cannot accept placement payments — they would compromise the search.
Trust and safety carry the same logic. Every tutor profile shows the verification stack visibly: email-verified, phone-verified, Stripe-connected, background-screening-cleared. Students filter by verification level before they ever see profiles. Tutors teaching minors must hold the verified-tutor badge before minor-facing bookings. Reviews require a completed lesson with payment recorded in the platform (no anonymous review-bombing); reviews under three stars route through Koydo content moderation for abusive language before publishing. Lesson recordings, if used, are visible to the consenting parent and the tutor — never to other tutors, never to other students, never to Koydo staff except under the published trust-and-safety incident response process.
The unit economics work because Koydo's revenue layer is independent. Pro Educator at $19 a month covers the teaching toolkit (curriculum, AI tutor, gradebook, parent share-link, branded booking page) and is purchased by tutors who want it — not extracted from every student-tutor match. School per-seat licenses cover the SSO/SCIM/LTI/DPA pillar. Koydo Payments at 5.9% + 30¢ covers the optional managed-billing tier. No single revenue line depends on commissioning matched lessons, so the directory can be free without subsidy — and the matching surface can be honestly tuned for fit instead of yield.
Yes. Free to search. Free to list your profile. Free for both students and tutors. Koydo takes 0% commission on matched lessons. Tutors monetize via the optional Pro Educator subscription ($19/mo flat) once they land paying students; Koydo never touches student payments. This is structurally different from italki (15-21% commission), Preply (18-33%), Cambly (~59%), or Wyzant (25%) — all of which tax matched lessons forever.
Tutors pick one of two flows at signup: Direct Stripe (0% Koydo, tutor handles disputes themselves) or Koydo Payments (5.9% + 30¢ all-in, Koydo handles billing + 1099 + dispute coordination + rolling chargeback reserve). Full plain-English explainer at /how-tutors-get-paid. Note that the choice of payment flow is independent of the marketplace itself — discovery is free regardless of which flow the tutor picks.
Yes — the directory is public and crawlable today. Tutors can claim their city + language slot now and become the first verified Koydo Lingua tutor for that pairing. Students searching today will see who's already listed plus open slots they can request fill. Booking, calendar sync, and in-platform billing for matched lessons are future features (see roadmap below) — for now, the directory is matching only: students find tutors, contact them through Koydo messaging, and arrange lessons + payment between themselves. Founding tutors get a Founding Tutor badge + free first year of Pro Educator.
Every Lingua tutor profile shows verification level: email-verified (free), phone-verified (free), Stripe-connected (the tutor has set up payment receiving), and verified-tutor badge (a completed third-party background screen, required before any tutor can accept minor-facing bookings). Students searching can filter by verification level. Verified-tutor badges expire annually and require re-check.
Yes — 5-star + written review, available after a student completes their first lesson package with a tutor. Reviews require a completed lesson with payment recorded — no anonymous review-bombing. Tutors can respond to a review once (no extended back-and-forth threads). Reviews under 3 stars trigger a Koydo content moderation review for abusive language before publishing.
Searches for tutors who will teach under-13 students are parent-initiated. The parent's identity is verified per Koydo's standard COPPA flow (the same one used in the Sprouts and Junior age tiers of the consumer Lingua app). Tutors teaching minors must hold a verified-tutor badge from a completed third-party background screen. Lesson recordings, if any, are visible to the parent and the parent only — never published publicly.
Yes. A tutor profile can list any number of languages they teach, each with a separate CEFR ceiling (the highest level they can teach in that language). The profile-creation flow surfaces the 50 currently-shipping Lingua languages; if you teach a language not yet in Lingua, you can still list it but won't get the AI-tutor support for that language. We add new languages quarterly.
