For parents · choosing a tutor for your kid
Languages are the gift you can't buy at a store. Koydo Lingua is where parents find tutors who already know what they're doing — DELF prep, heritage learners, conversation-first middle-school pacing, gentle 5-year-old introductions. Free trial. Background-checked. Sibling discounts. No platform-tax surprise.
Three steps, end to end
Search by language, age range, CEFR level, schedule fit. Every tutor profile shows verification level + ratings + 30-second intro audio + real reviews from other parents. No paid placement.
Pick a tutor, pick a time, run a trial in your browser — same lesson room your kid would use weekly. No card on file. If the chemistry isn't there, try another tutor; we'll help with the switch.
Once you've found the right tutor, weekly bookings auto-recur. You pay your tutor's rate through Stripe — Koydo takes 3%, your tutor sees the rest. Cancel any time, no penalty.
The boring, important things
Verifiable parental consent
COPPA + GDPR-K. Signed once at signup. Nothing your child says or does is stored until that step is done.
Background-checked tutors
Annual verified background screen for any tutor teaching minors before minor-facing bookings. Visible badge on the profile once cleared. Tutors without a current badge cannot appear in under-13 searches.
Recording: your call
Opt-in with two-sided consent. Encrypted. Visible to you only. Most parents leave it on for the review-at-bedtime moments; a meaningful minority leave it off.
IEP / 504 accommodations applied
Upload once; engine applies extra time, simplified UI, audio-first defaults, slowed TTS across every lesson — every tutor.
A letter from a parent
We tried two other platforms before Koydo. The first one paired us with three tutors in five months — turnover wasn't their fault, but the way the platform kept losing our kid's progress was. The second one was so optimized for the marketplace that our tutor spent more time on her own funnel than on our daughter's pronunciation. Koydo is different. The same tutor for nine months. Sarah. Our daughter's CEFR went from A1.4 to B1.2 — and more important, she chose to use French at her abuela's last Christmas. That moment paid for the whole thing.

Outschool and Preply are marketplaces — tutors list, you book, and the platform takes 30–33% off every lesson your tutor teaches. That commission is built into the rate you pay. Koydo takes 3%, your tutor sees ~93%, and the engine (curriculum, pronunciation lab, video, reader, music, AI tutor) is included in your weekly lesson — not a separate subscription. The lesson room is in your browser; nothing handed off to Zoom; nothing to install.
Most kids find Lingua lessons within their first session — the engine has six different ways of presenting a new word (read it, hear it, say it, draw it, sing it, use it in a scenario), and a real human tutor reading the room. Younger kids gravitate toward Music and Map; middle-schoolers toward Conversation and Reader. Trial lessons are free; if your kid isn't engaged within two sessions, we'll help you find a different tutor — different style, different age comfort — at no cost.
Honest answer: Lingua adds 30-60 minutes of screen time per weekly lesson, plus optional 10-15 min/day of practice (reader, vocab quiz, pronunciation streak). Almost all of it is active — speaking, reading, writing — not passive video. Many families budget Lingua as the substitute for one piece of their existing screen budget, not as an addition.
Three things. (1) Verifiable parental consent (COPPA + GDPR-K) before any data is collected — you sign once at signup. (2) Tutors teaching minors must hold a current verified background-screening badge before minor-facing bookings. (3) Recording is opt-in with two-sided consent, encrypted, and parent-visible. Most parents leave recording on for review-at-bedtime convenience; a meaningful minority leave it off.
Upload the IEP at signup and the engine applies the accommodations — extra time on quizzes, simplified UI, audio-first defaults, slowed TTS — across every lesson your child takes, with every tutor in your org. You don't have to re-explain it. The tutor sees the relevant teaching accommodations on their dashboard.
Automatic. Second child enrolled: 15% off your second child's plan. Third child: 25% off. Adjusted in real time on the family invoice, no codes to enter, no calls to make.
One click. All their progress (CEFR level, vocab list, pronunciation history, lesson recordings) stays on your child's account — not on the tutor's account. Switching tutors picks up exactly where the last lesson left off; the new tutor sees the trajectory and doesn't make your kid re-take the placement test.
Free: browsing tutors, sending messages, the 30-minute trial lesson (one per tutor). Paid: weekly lessons (you pay your tutor's rate, charged after each lesson). No subscription, no platform tax, no surprise fees. Refundable for any reason in the first 24 hours after a lesson.
Trial is 30 minutes. Free. No card. We'll help you sort the directory by what actually matters — schedule, age, language, vibe.
