Learn Spanish — el segundo idioma más hablado del mundo
español
Spanish is the second-most-spoken native language on the planet — 500M speakers, 21 country variants, the working language of huge swaths of the Americas. Koydo's Spanish tutors are natives of Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and 12 more variants; pick by regional fit + DELE prep specialty + age band.
You learn Spanish on Koydo with a native tutor you choose yourself — by regional fit, DELE prep specialty, and age band, across natives of Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and a dozen more variants. The rhythm is two 30-minute lessons a week plus a 5-minute daily ritual, working through a CEFR-graded curriculum. Spanish is one of the friendlier Romance languages to start, with a harder middle around the subjunctive; the right tutor walks you up that hill instead of skipping it. Expect A2 by six months, when you can travel and hold short conversations, and B1 by twelve months, when you can defend a simple position and follow most shows with subtitles. Pick a Mexico, Spain, or Colombia tutor depending on where you'll use it. Your first lesson is a trial, Koydo never takes commission from your tutor, and you can cancel anytime.
Why Spanish
Roughly 500 million native speakers across 21 countries. If you live in the US, work in healthcare, hospitality, education, or law, Spanish doubles your effective service population. In Spain, Mexico, and most of Central + South America, it's the daily working language.
Spanish is one of the most beginner-friendly Romance languages — phonetic spelling, regular conjugation patterns, gender rules with clear endings. The middle (B1 → B2) is hard: subjunctive triggers, ser/estar nuance, ten verb tenses. The right tutor walks you through that hill instead of skipping it.
Cervantes, Borges, García Márquez, Almodóvar, Bad Bunny. The Spanish-speaking literary + musical canon is one of the deepest in any language. CEFR B2 unlocks reading actual books and watching real shows without subtitles — that's the unlock that keeps learners committed past month 6.
The DELE exam (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the gold-standard Spanish credential. Koydo runs DELE-prep cohorts at every level A1-C2 with examiner-network tutors. The DELE pass rate is what gets you Spanish-language jobs and Spanish-track university admissions.

Regional note
Spanish has meaningful regional variation. A Madrid-educated tutor uses 'vosotros' and 'tú' and pronounces 'z' as a soft 'th'. A Buenos Aires tutor uses 'vos' and pronounces 'll'/'y' as 'sh'. A Mexico City tutor's accent is the most common in US-distributed Spanish-language media. Pick by where you plan to use Spanish: family in Mexico → MX tutor; planning to live in Spain → ES tutor; working internationally → CO/PE/CL tutors (neutral).
FAQ
If you do two 30-minute lessons per week + a 5-minute daily ritual, you'll have your first sustained 10-minute conversation around week 10. By month 6 you're at A2 (can travel, can hold short conversations on familiar topics). At month 12 you're at B1 (can defend a simple position, can watch most shows with subtitles).
Most beginners worry about this too much. All variants are mutually intelligible — a Madrid speaker and a Buenos Aires speaker understand each other completely. Pick the variant that matches your actual use case (see Regional Note above). Switching later is a 2-3 week adjustment, not starting over.
If you want to sound native, yes. If you just want to survive a vacation, no — present indicative + a few key phrases gets you 80% of the way. B1 and up require subjunctive. Most learners hit a wall around month 6 trying to figure out triggers; the right tutor walks you through the pattern instead of letting you memorize 50 trigger phrases.
Yes. Sprouts age band (5-7) does songs, color/number games, simple dialogues. Junior (8-11) starts CEFR-graded curriculum. Tween (11-14) can run DELE prep. Heritage learners (kids with one Spanish-speaking parent) often progress 2× faster — the brain has a head start.
