Newly-arrived refugee families need English fast — for work, school enrollment, medical appointments, housing applications. Local ESL classes had 6-week waitlists + only weekday-morning slots. Many parents couldn't attend (work conflicts) or couldn't bring children (no childcare).

The Koydo solution

Riverside contracted Koydo for evening + weekend ESL cohorts — Arabic-speaking tutors who could explain English concepts in Arabic when needed. Parent + child cohorts ran simultaneously, so parents didn't need childcare. Cohorts were COPPA-compliant for the kids; the org's case manager had read-only access to monitor progress.

Outcomes by 6 months

Parents averaged A2 spoken English by month 5-7. Kids progressed faster (typical — child language acquisition). 14 parents passed the citizenship-test English requirement by month 8. 6 parents enrolled in community college courses by month 10.
