For teachers losing Duolingo for Schools
Duolingo for Schools shuts down by July 2027 and is already closed to new classrooms — no new sign-ups are accepted. Koydo Lingua's classroom OS (rostering, class codes, assignments, gradebook, progress reports, unlimited classes) is free forever, and every student rides the full free A1 course at no cost. No trial clock, no seat count, no card.

What Duolingo is retiring
The free classroom dashboard, assignment tools, and classroom progress view go away. It's already closed to new classrooms today — only teachers with an existing Duolingo for Schools classroom keep it running until the shutdown date.
Who's affected
Duolingo for Schools was, for many teachers, the only free classroom tool for language practice. Its retirement leaves a real gap — students can still use the consumer Duolingo app on their own, but the teacher-facing tools disappear.
The classroom OS is free forever. Full stop.

Duolingo announced Duolingo for Schools is being retired by July 2027, and the program is already closed to new classroom sign-ups — teachers who don't already have a Duolingo for Schools classroom can no longer start one. That leaves world-language teachers who built a lesson routine around it needing somewhere free to land before the shutdown completes.
The free classroom layer Duolingo for Schools gave teachers — a dashboard to see student progress at a glance, the ability to assign practice, and a classroom view of streaks and completion — goes away with it. Students can still use the regular Duolingo app on their own, but the teacher-side visibility and assignment tools disappear.
The classroom OS — rostering, class-code enrollment (students join in their browser at lingua.koydo.app/join, no install), a cohort CSV import wizard, homework assignments, a per-student gradebook, attendance, and progress reports — is free forever, with unlimited classes and no seat count, no card required. Every enrolled student also gets the complete free A1 (CEFR beginner) course in their target language at no cost, on the same free-forever basis as the classroom tools.
We're building all three, and we'd rather tell you the truth than a marketing line: none of them have a live automatic sync yet. Today, rosters come in through a class code or a CSV cohort import — both work right now and both are free. If your district runs Clever, ClassLink, or an LTI 1.3/OneRoster-compatible SIS, request early access from your school admin dashboard (Educator → School → Rostering) and we'll contact you directly as each integration goes live, in the order districts ask for it.
A2 through C1 content is the paid Pro tier — $15 per seat per month at 25-99 seats, $11 from 100-499 seats, $8 at 500+ seats (the same published, no-quote-calls ladder as our standard /for-schools plan). You can turn Pro on for a whole class, a single section, or leave every student on the free A1 tier indefinitely — nothing on the classroom-OS side requires it.
Start educator onboarding, pick "school" or "tutor/educator" as your workspace, and you'll have an organization, your first class code, and a gradebook inside a few minutes. Import your existing class list as a CSV (name, email, grade) rather than re-typing every student by hand — the cohort import wizard handles it.
We save your request against your free Koydo account and email you as each district roster sync goes live, in the order schools asked for it. Joining the list is not a queue for the product itself — the classroom OS and the free A1 course are open right now, so if a class code or a CSV import works for you, don't wait for us. The list only exists for the roster integrations that genuinely are not finished.
