What italki's current policy actually says
The Teacher Policy effective 30 January 2026 no longer lists commission percentages. It says the service fee varies with the teacher's overall performance, and reserves the right to delay or stop disbursement. A rate you cannot look up is a rate you cannot plan around — which is a real cost, even before you know the number.

How the arithmetic works: your rate times your lessons is what you bill. A platform's cut is its published percentage of that, plus the full value of any lesson it pays you nothing for. Card-processing fees are left out on every row, including ours, because you would pay those wherever you taught.
Two rows are deliberately blank until you fill them in. italki's Teacher Policy of 30 January 2026 removed its published percentages and ties the fee to the teacher's overall performance, and AmazingTalker's tutor terms did not load when we checked on 3 August 2026. We are not going to print a percentage for either that they have not published themselves.
Cambly's row works differently because Cambly does. It pays a fixed rate per minute rather than a share of what you charge, so the figure shown is its published hourly pay applied to your lesson count, treating one lesson as one hour. Your own rate does not enter into it — that is the point of a pay ceiling.
Koydo's row is 0% because your students pay you directly and there is no Koydo checkout for lessons at all. The one thing you buy from us is your background screening, at the provider's price plus 20%, which is not part of this table because it is not per-lesson.

Koydo takes 0% of your lesson rate, and there is no Koydo checkout for lessons at all — your students pay you directly, so your money never passes through us. Koydo is funded by the subscriptions families buy for the learning side and by an optional flat $19-a-month workspace tutors can choose. That is written down on a permanent page with a date on it, and if it ever changes the change appears there first.

Those are the figures teachers report to each other, and they are widely repeated — but italki does not publish them, and we could not verify either against italki's own pages. We are not going to print a number as fact when the company that would know has taken it down. Use your own statement: it is the only figure that is actually about you.
Take one recent completed lesson. Divide what landed in your italki balance by what the student was charged for that lesson, subtract from one, and multiply by a hundred. That percentage is your rate for that lesson — which, under the current policy, is not guaranteed to be your rate for the next one.

Families buy a Koydo subscription for the learning side — graded lessons in 50+ languages, the reader, the pronunciation lab, progress, the AI tutor — and that subscription is what unlocks messaging a tutor. Separately, tutors can choose a flat $19-a-month Pro Educator workspace for teaching tools. That is the whole model, and neither line is a percentage of your teaching.
No. Listing on Koydo is free, so the sensible move is to keep italki and add a listing that takes nothing. We will not ask you to move students you met on italki — that would put you in breach of terms you agreed to, and the risk would all be yours.
Its own payment terms say no refunds are given for italki Credits purchased, with a twelve-month dormancy expiry, and the current Teacher Policy reserves the right to delay or stop disbursement. Those are italki's published words, linked below. On Koydo there is no balance at all — nothing of yours is ever inside an account we control.
